Green Track Program
CDI’s Green Track program exposes students to careers in sustainability through education and internships. The program aims to turn abstract concepts of environmentalism into personal experiences and expose students to practical career options.
Green Track in the Classroom
Green Track classes focus on project-based learning, from building solar panels to community outreach and educational presentations. In the fall semester, students learn how buildings use energy and then go out into the community to educate small business owners about how to upgrade their lighting to be more energy efficient. In the spring, students build solar panels with John Burke of Maine Solar, build LED lamps with engineers from Cooper Union, and do outreach and workshops with Solar One.
Green Careers
Green Track’s paid internships all focus on “green” jobs in fields such as energy efficiency, education, advocacy, solar energy, urban agriculture, bicycle mechanics, and horticulture. Internships often lead to entry level, living wage positions. For students who are not college-bound, these internships offer important career pathways. Some of our Green Track internships partners include: NYC Parks Department, MillionTreesNYC, Solar One, Envirolution, and The Eagle Street Rooftop Farm.
